Korean boyband BTS (also known as Bangtan Boys) just recommended a song from Love, Simon and social media went into meltdown.
The hugely popular seven-member South Korean band produce mostly hip hop, but also R&B and rock music. They have a huge social media following, becoming the most tweeted about celebrity in 2017.
The band’s leader and main rapper RM (born Kim Namjoon) tweeted the simple recommendation this morning (15 April).
RM posted a screenshot of the song Strawberries and Cigarettes by gay artist Troye Sivan from the movie Love, Simon. He captioned the photo simply with ‘It’s great.’

The tweet has over 115,000 retweets and almost 300,000 likes. But it’s the comments really making a splash.
Love, Simon is a coming-of-age movie about a young boy coming to terms with his sexuality.
Earlier this year, Sivan said he’d be down to collaborate with BTS: ‘That would be so fun.
‘I fell way down watching all their music videos,’ he said. ‘They’ve been so nice to me since day one, so I just want to meet them and say thank you. It’s a world I’ve yet to fully delve into and understand, so I’m just completely curious about the whole thing.’
‘Super fucking wonderful and really important’
People took to social media to express how big this moment is.
One fan wrote on Twitter: ‘not to be too dramatic about this but namjoon openly supporting a gay song by a gay artist from a gay movie is uhhhhhhhhh Super Fucking Wonderful and really important.’
RM just tweeted a song by Troye Sivan from the soundtrack of “Love, Simon”, a movie that touches a VERY important subject🙏
➡Is it possible for me to respect RM more than I already do?😭 I’m SO proud he’s our leader❤#PremiosMTVMiaw#MTVBRKPOPBTS @BTS_twt

Another tweeted: ‘if u think namjoon sharing a gay song from a gay movie sung by a gay artist isn’t an iconic and political move, ur wrong.’
Then one person wrote: ‘Why do people always discriminate against others who’s different? I just saw in #BTS account that RM were kind as always to recommend something to us to listen to. What happened? Some begin to comment disgusting gay memes just because the artist that RM shared are gay.’
