Taylor Bennett has spoken about how his coming out was ‘easy’ and the real reason behind the decision.
The 22-year-old rapper came out in January 2017 as bisexual.
He explained at the time that he wanted to ‘be more open about myself to help others that struggle with the same issues.’
Over a year later, Bennett has spoken more about why he decided to come out.
He told Highsnobiety: ‘I always say that it was easier for me, because I’m a rapper and I have fans.’
In the exclusive interview, he continued to explain that he came out so kids have someone to look to.
‘I’m doing it for that kid that sits in the classroom, the one that has nobody to talk to and has no friends – that’s who it’s hard for,’ Bennett said.
He also opened up about the topics his upcoming album will touch upon.
‘A place people could feel comfortable’
‘I’m writing honestly about my sexuality for the first time,’ Bennett told Highsnobiet.
‘Sure, this music is about me as a person. But it’s also so, so much bigger than just me.’
He adds that he wants his music to ‘create a place people could feel comfortable.’
His upcoming project is titled Be Yourself, which he hopes he can help people do.
Bennett came out in a series of tweets.
They read: ‘My birthday is tomorrow & moving into next year I’d like to be more open about myself to help others that struggle with the same issues… Growing up I’ve always felt indifferent about my sexuality & being attracted 2 one sex & today I would like to openly come out to my fans…
