London is getting a new 24-hour electronic music venue and it’s kicking off with a killer queer line-up.
FOLD is a 600-capacity nightclub opening up in an industrial estate between Canning Town and Star Lane. Following in the vein of Berlin’s notorious nightclubs, they’ll be playing electronic music with an ‘at least 24 hour’ opening time on Saturdays.
Luckily, they’ve got some premier queer talent to get the party going. Launching 18 August 2018, party organizers Homodrop will be appearing alongside all-female collective Resis’dance.
Resis’Dance are a diverse group of DJs and music techs who are women that aim to challenge gender norms in the party and political scene. How do they do that? Amazing music, of course. They’ve played major sets at Secret Garden Party, Tate Lates, and Pxssy Palace.
All-female collective, keeping people safe
They also keep dance nights a safe space with their ‘Safer Spaces’ team, that act to stop dance floor discrimination and sexual harassment.
Meanwhile, Dalston Superstore regulars Homodrop are all about creating dance nights for LGBT people in London.
London’s clubbing scene took a massive blow recently when Hackney Council ruled that new venues couldn’t open past 11pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends.
LGBTI venues have particular bad luck in London, with 151 gay bars and clubs shut between 200 and 2016 in the capital.

However, FOLD is part of the Shapes Collective, a group fighting the closure of London clubs.
The new club will feature a main room with a 110db soundsystem, alongside five music studios available for hire.
Sam Glover, co-founder of the club, told the Evening Standard that they would ‘strive to do things differently in London, cultivating a more continental approach, creatinga place where you can spend extended periods or come and go as you please.’
Getting these LGBTI superstars on board is a start.
