Grandparents are killing it this week. A trans woman took to Twitter yesterday (10 May) to tell the story of coming out to her 86-year-old grandmother.
Leah aka Twitter user @newdialectic posted yesterday morning that she decided to come out to her grandma and dad. Understandably, she was really nervous.

Fortunately, it turns out she had a great support system behind her.
Here’s how it went down
Several hours later, Leah gave the first update: coming out to her grandmother.
Her grandmother’s first response? ‘You’ve always been so kind and sensitive. Now I see femininity in those memories.’
She continued: ‘I’m proud of you for recognizing who you are and living as your true self. You’re a beautiful woman and, no matter who you become, I love you.’
Okay, cue the tears.

According to Leah, her grandmother was overwhelmed by the positive responses.
She said it filled her with hope the world was becoming compassionate.
I showed my grandma all the wonderful replies here. She was overwhelmed and speechless for a few moments. She told me it fills her with hope that the world has become so compassionate since she was my age. Thank you everyone for making her day… She made mine. 💞

So how’d it go?
Also great! He said he liked her make-up, awwww.
Me: “Dad… I need to tell you something.”
Dad: “Of course. What?”
Me: “I’m… I’m… I’m… trans.”
Dad: “What does that mean?”
Me: “It means I’m a woman.”
Dad: “Oh. Well I could have figured that out.”
Me: ?!?
Dad: “And your makeup looks pretty.”
Me: ?!?!?

He also called her Leah without a problem.
Me: “So… you can learn to see me as a woman?”
Dad: “Of course. You’re my child and I love you. Loving you means supporting you, even if it’ll be a learning experience for me.”
AAAAAAAAA 💞
Also my dad SEAMLESSLY called me Leah just now! He’s getting it! I love him! 💞

And, of course, the acceptance of puppies is best of all.
In conclusion: my puppies also accept me as a woman!! 💞 pic.twitter.com/GcjKWh0M17

What a great way to go into the weekend.
More recently, another grandmother shut down her own son’s casual homophobia.
Grandmas are the heroes we deserve.
