Grey’s Anatomy are introducing their first gay male surgeon into the next series of the show and they’ve made quite the choice.

Season 15 will see Dr Nico Kim take up residency at the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, with actor Alex Landi taking the role. ABC, who produce the show, confirmed the casting to TV Line, but refused to say how long the character will be on the series.

The character will be joining the roster of LGBTI characters. The most famous characters are Callie Torres, who was bisexual, and Arizona Robbins, who identified as a lesbian. Sara Ramirez and Jessica Capshaw played the characters before leaving.

But there’s been very little gay male representation. Luckily, Alex Landi is here to fill the void and, upon hearing the news, we thirstily dived through his Instagram.

The star himself took to Instagram to give his thanks for being cast in the role. He shared the TV Line article and commented: ‘Very grateful. Thank you to everyone who has made this possible. Watch me take on the role of Dr. Nico Kim for the season 15 premiere on Sept 27th 8pm on ABC.’

The star started out his acting career by training at Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. He then traveled to Asia to train with renowned martial arts teams.

The Grey’s Anatomy gig is Alex’s first big role. According to his IMDB, the actor appeared in an episode of late-coming-of-age comedy Childlike. He’s also set to appear in short film Broken Land.
