USA: LGBTQ protections in schools, Florida refuses to apply the regulations approved by Biden

Written by

Florida will not implement the amendments made by the President’s Administration Joe Biden on Title IX, aimed at introducing new protections for transsexual students, recognizing for example their right to compete in sports categories reserved for members of the opposite biological sex. This was stated by the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis. “Florida rejects the attempt to rewrite Title IX,” said the Republican governor via a video message published on X (Twitter). We will not adapt, and we will fight back.” The Biden administration today unveiled the final version of a series of changes to Title IX, which will take effect in August. According to Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, the new regulations “expand the spirit of Title IX by making clear that all of our nation’s students can access schools that are safe, open, and respectful of their rights.”

The Florida Education Commissioner has an opposite opinion, Manny Diaz Jr.: “Rather than implement clear congressional directives to prevent discrimination on the basis of biological sex, the Biden administration is tearing statutes apart beyond recognition and attempting to push the country into believing that biological sex no longer means anything,” the official said. DeSantis, who in the past has already harshly criticized LGBTQ activism, accusing it of causing damage to social cohesion and the US education system, last year launched measures aimed at excluding LGBTQ issues from Florida’s school curricula.
