The Heathers TV show, a remake of the 1988 cult classic starring Winona Ryder, arrives soon.
Ever since its announcement, people didn’t know how to feel about it. Paramount Network released a new red band (aka uncensored) trailer for the show and people are more opinionated than ever.
In the original movie, Veronica (Ryder) tires of her time with the popular Heather clique. She and her new boyfriend, J.D. (Christian Slater), plan to ruin them. However, things quickly get out of hand with suicide notes, murder, and black comedy.
In this new take, Veronica (Grace Victoria Cox) and J.D. (James Scully) go up against a brand new group of modern-day and diverse Heathers (played by Melanie Field, Brendan Scannell, and Jasmine Matthews).
Selma Blair and original cast member Shannen Doherty also have roles.

Don’t mess with a classic
A lot of people aren’t happy with the reboot because the original is a classic.
Raise your hand if you’re angry at the #Heathers reboot 🙋♀️

I think the thing I find the wildest about this whole #Heathers reboot is how the people behind it have continued to show a blatant lack of respect to the original film, the characters, the message, and most of all, THE FANS that help made and continue to make Heathers a classic. pic.twitter.com/lPVibbMxfQ

You can’t improve on the original #Heathers, so I wouldn’t even try. pic.twitter.com/omVhOCXnfi

Nothing is going to be better than the original #Heathers. It’s a cult classic that should not be messed with. I don’t care what anyone says pic.twitter.com/Bp1xE3Xieq

Others take issue with the role-reversal and making women and queer characters the Heathers.
So I have literally never seen #heathers a day in my life but like this new thing I see STINKS of reverse bigotry. They make a plus sized girl, a gay kid, and a WoC the villains while the traditional looking boy and girl are the bullied ones… yeah pic.twitter.com/J0KrOZAdRc

So … the #Heathers reboot is about the pretty cisgender white het couple killing the queers and big girls?

ppl mad because the #heathers reboot is “too liberal now” and “representation is annoying”….thats not the problem with it karen. its actually feeling very anti-liberal if ANYTHING

I don’t get why they had to remake #Heathers into a series or AT ALL (unless maybe to make the musical into a movie which they didn’t do so NEXT), let alone make the bullies a plus sized woman and members of the LGBTQ. I’m sorry, what? That’s supposed to be “progressive”?

It’s mind-boggling that Paramount thinks we have advanced far enough that now queer, POC & fat people have enough social in to bully and torment the white straights. #Heathers

Others, however, are excited about it.
I am very happy a show like #Heathers exists https://t.co/tyFOR46Glj

I also forgot to publically announce that I’m kinda excited for the new #Heathers show and I don’t care if you care.

Like critics who have seen clips.
The clip we just saw from #Heathers has me convinced it’s in good hands. #ParamountNetwork #TCA18
