Tyler Oakley cries as he visits Pulse memorial

YouTube star Tyler Oakley has shone a spotlight on the tragedies to come out after the Pulse shooting last summer.

Visiting Orlando a year after the shooting, the emotional video is part of an eight-part series celebrates LGBTI identities and ‘stories of queer resilience’.

Survivor Angel Colon appears in the video, describing how he came to the club to dance and spend time with friends.

Christine Leinonen, mother of a victim, tells how she tried to find her son and how her doctors told her he had died.

Oakley also visits Pulse, speaks to other people in the community, and meets with the executive director of Central Florida LGBT Center Terry DeCarlo.

The director described the haven as a ‘place the community knew they could come to and be around others who were feeling the same way they were, to get that hug, to say what can I do to help’.

Episode One, guest starring Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy, looked at the process of coming out. In Episode Two, Tyler Oakley tried his hand at drag with help from Miss Fame (Season 7 of RuPaul’s Drag Race).
