The couple announced the news on Friday (26 May) and fans were quick to congratulate the happy couple, including fellow actors Andrew Hayden-Smith, Sophie Porley and Lauren McQueen.
Richardson and Hyland have had a complicated journey with surrogacy, with four failed attempts.
Nevertheless, they announced the news in Christmas last year in an adorable Instagram post.
Richardson told Digital Spy: ‘We wanted to wait to see whether we needed to buy pink or blue, but now we know we can buy both colours, as we’re having our very own Prince and Princess.’
Speaking to Gay Star News last year, Richardson said: ‘With IVF it doesn’t work every time.
‘You can put the eggs and the embryos in, and you think it’s going to stick and the body will just reject it. It’s not as easy as people think. Although there’s a 60% success rate so it’s still pretty high,’ he said.
Richardson plays Ste Hay on the Channel 4 soap opera.
He married Carl Hyland in 2015 and the couple have been together for nine years.
On the best things about married life, Richardson said: ‘Knowing you have each other for life no matter what.
‘You’ve bonded yourselves together,’ he said.
