Equality Federation Responds to Justice Kennedy’s Retirement

Written by gaytourism

While he is sadly ending his career after three unfortunate rulings on the rights of workers, religious discrimination, and reproductive rights, several of Justice Anthony Kennedy’s deciding votes in years past pushed the trajectory of LGBTQ equality toward fairness and justice, including his vote on marriage equality.

We must ensure that his replacement represents the core values of America – freedom and fairness for all, and will stand up to Trump’s regressive agenda.

Equality Federation calls on members of the United States Senate to refuse to confirm any nominations to the Supreme Court until after the midterm elections this November, when voters will have the chance to voice their opinion on the direction of the country. The dire consequences of another anti-LGBTQ, anti-immigrant, extremist Trump nomination should give all Senators pause.

As the Trump Administration continues to attack marginalized communities – from women to immigrants to the poor – we will continue fighting for fair policies and strong communities throughout the country.
