A 10-year-old ‘drag kid’ stars in a new campaign film for NYC Pride.

‘Desmond is Amazing’ is the moniker for Brooklyn’s Desmond Napoles. He has already earned attention for his androgynous drag looks. He recently walked the runway for label Gypsy Sport as part of New York Fashion Week.

Desmond recently announced that he was launching the ‘first and only drag house for drag kids’: HausOfAmazing. On Instagram, he describes himself as an ‘unapologetic gay youth.’

Yesterday, NYC Pride unveiled the first of a series of social media films. The theme of this year’s Pride, and the series, is ‘Defiantly Different.’

In the 30-second film, which features Desmond being made-up by a makeup artist, he explains what makes him ‘defiantly different.’

‘I am different because I am very young and doing drag at a very young age.

‘It makes me feel amazing. It gives me courage, and it also gives other people courage to do what they want.’

Defiantly Different

NYC Pride organizer’s announced the theme yesterday. ‘Defiantly Different celebrates the rallying cry of generations who laid the groundwork for equality, the next wave of creative thinkers prepared to score their own trails, and each distinctive individual in between.’

As well as social media films, the theme was launched with the revealing of a photo by photographer Danielle Levitt. Among the dozens of LGBTI people featured are Desmond, curator Kiyanna Stewart, transgender model Pêche Di, and 94-year-old community activist, Frances Goldin. The latter is famously-known for consistently known for attending NYC Pride every year with a sign saying ‘I Love My Lesbian Daughters.’

This year’s NYC Pride runs 14-24 June.
