A TV star ‘came out’ on national television last night – or at least you’d think so from looking at certain headlines and Twitter.
Paul ‘Sinnerman’ Sinha appears on British quiz show The Chase on ITV.
On last night’s episode, while answering a question about Mario Kart, he mentioned his ex-boyfriend.
Host Bradley Walsh asked him: ‘In what well-known racing video game are bananas and turtles thrown?’
Paul got the question wrong. He then added: ‘My ex was obsessed with Mario Kart. He also said I never paid attention. That’s proved he’s right!’
Various headlines were generated about Paul ‘coming out’. However, he was never actually in, having spoken about being gay in past interviews.
Responses on Twitter were split.
They ranged from the genuinely surprised (or not)…
Paul Sinha from The Chase is gay. I haven’t been this surprised by a celebrity outing since Jodie Foster.

…to the bemused
Am I the only person apart from the chasers that knew @paulsinha was Gay?
— Julie (@JulieDugdale1) 31 May 2017
…to the matter of fact
Well I did *not* know about Paul Sinha, only reason being I haven’t read much about any of the Chasers’ personal lives off the show.

…to the fabulously condescending
Well done, Daily Mirror! Any word on Graham Norton? Stephen Fry? Liberace?
— Chris Merry (@merryc99) May 30, 2017
…to the completely uninterested
In what well known racing video game are bananas & turtles thrown? “Grand Theft Auto.” I’m dying! #TheChase
— Shannon-Jade (@Shannon_Jade94) May 30, 2017
…to the philosophical
If a tree falls down in a wood, has it only happened if ITV broadcasts it many months later?
— Paul Sinha (@paulsinha) May 30, 2017
…and finally, to the thankful
Just watched @paulsinha talk about his ex boyfriend on the @ITV quiz show #TheChase and it’s definitely welcome! Thank you for being open
