Meet the gay superhero who’s crushing Nazis to take back the US

Written by gaytourism

The creators of The Flash and Supergirl have revealed the first glimpse of a gay superhero who will lead the resistance against Nazis who have taken over the US.

The Ray, a reporter who accidentally gains light-based powers, will be coming to The CW’s digital outlet this autumn as the protagonist in Freedom Fighters: The Ray.

CW Seed will air the animated series, set in an alternate history in which Germany won the Second World War, and now rules the US.

In this dystopian, white supremacist version of the US, Green Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl have all been recruited by the Nazis and constantly attempt to destroy our heroes.

In the first trailer for the show, The Ray and his fellow freedom fighters are seen protecting a group of refugees trying to flee Nazi-controlled Oklahoma.

As well as the assorted CW heroes-turned-villains, the group also has to do battle against an army of Nazi robots.

According to The CW, “Raymond ‘Ray’ Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction.

“But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a ‘genetic light bomb’.

“The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice – he could take action to help stop it.

“Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.”

It is believed that The Ray will eventually cross over into the Arrow series.

CW President Mark Pedowitz said last year that it will happen, “without question.

“That is the way we are intending to build these things out.”

The Ray first appeared in 1940 in DC Comics, and has been a member of the Justice League and the Forgotten Heroes.

The cast of Supergirl came under fire last week after appearing to mock fans who ship lesbian relationships on the show during an interview with MTV News.

Arrow star Colton Haynes opened up last year about being told that his father killed himself after hearing that he had come out as gay.
